So, with that background, is there a better option? I even have an old business class Windows 7 laptop I can dedicate to scanner duty if there is a solid laptop based option. I found what seemed like a deal on the Verus, but the cost of updates scared me, which has been confirmed here. This was all fine and well when I was running late 90s and early 2000s shit, but now I have a 20 that are out of warranty, so I find myself in the spot of needing to get tooled up again for the newer stuff.
